School Policies

In cooperation with teachers, students and parents/guardians, the Principal or designee shall establish school rules governing student dress and grooming, which are consistent with law, Governing Board policy, and administrative regulations. For everyone’s safety, the site administrator has discretion for resolving dress code issues. These school dress codes shall be regularly reviewed. The following guidelines shall apply to all regular school activities: 

1. Shoes must be worn at all times and must have closed toe and closed heel. Thongs, backless shoes, or sandals are not acceptable. “High” heels on shoes should not be over 1” (inch) high. 
2. Clothing, jewelry, and personal items (backpacks, fanny packs, gym bags, water bottles, etc.) shall be free of writing, pictures, or any other insignia which are obscene, vulgar, profane, or sexually suggestive; or which bear gang, drug, alcohol, or tobacco advertising, promotions, and/or likenesses; or which advocate racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice. 
3. Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. See-through fabrics; low-cut tops; bare midriffs; backless; and skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh are prohibited. 
4. Students may not wear any clothing or jewelry that can be gang, crew or “click” affiliated. 
5. Pants must be worn at the waist. Underwear may not be visible. 
6. Students may not wear belts with initial belt buckles. Belts or jewelry cannot be spiked or present a danger to self or others. 
7. Gym shorts may not be worn in class other than physical education, except when directed by a staff member. 
8. Wallet chains or chains of any other type may not be worn. 
9. Hats, caps, and visors may be worn only for sun protection and only outdoors. There may be exceptions for religious or medical reasons. 
10. Sunscreen may be used during the day. School sites may determine specific rules for application. 
11. Coaches and teachers may impose more stringent dress requirements to accommodate the special needs and safety precautions of certain sports and/or classes. For example, large hoop earrings or piercings on the face present a danger to students while performing physical activities. 

No physical education grade shall be adversely affected if the student does not wear the standard physical education apparel due to hardship or circumstances beyond the student’s control. 

The Principal, staff, students, and parent/guardians at each school may establish reasonable dress and grooming regulations including regulations for times when students are engaged in extracurricular or other special school activities. Parents shall be notified of changes in writing. [BP/AR 5132]

Our school offers free breakfast and lunch to all of our students daily that meet nutrition standards and promote healthy choices.  We encourage you to review our healthy snack option list for school, which includes a list of recommended snacks  and snacks that should not be brought to school. Wellness Policy

Lawndale Elementary School District Food Services team is committed to providing healthy, quality meals to all children in the district. It is fundamental for students to be well-nourished in order for them to learn effectively. We believe that all foods and beverages consumed by students at district schools should support the health curriculum and promote optimal health. During the school day, items available on campus follow LESD-adopted nutrition standards. It is important to emphasize the relationship between student health and wellness and academic performance. Therefore we encourage all students to participate in the free Breakfast and Lunch Program at the school site.

Important Reminders:

• If you choose to bring lunch/snacks/drinks from home, we encourage it to be a healthy choice.
• Due to allergies and safety, we will not accept any delivery service meals (DoorDash, UberEats, etc).
• Prior approval from the Administration is needed for any shared food items or class parties.
• Students are not permitted to sell food or candy items on campus.
• Students should not bring the following:
  • Soda Energy or coffee drinks
  • Candy
  • Beverages in glass bottles
  • Large bags (family size) of chips (Hot Cheetos, Takis)

If your student will not be eating school breakfast and lunch, we encourage families to pack a lunch and send it to school with your child.  Although we understand some mornings are rushed and lunches are left behind, we discourage fast food drop off in the office.

Parents/Guardians, please remember that you must wait outside of the gate during drop-off. We have staff and administration directing students to the cafeteria and their lines. At pick-up, parents/guardians must wait outside of the gate and wait to receive their students to ensure school safety.

For the safety of our community and to ensure that the flow of traffic does not interfere with our ability to welcome our students or respond to emergencies, please ensure to abide by the following:

• Park legally
• Do not block driveways
• Do not move trash cans or any item placed by our school
• Abide by the posted speed limits
• Do not double park
• Do not park in the fire lane - this lane is for emergency vehicles only.  "No parking" signs are posted and you will be towed.
• Do not allow your child to run across the street from the curb to campus.  Please exit the vehicle to drop off and pick up your child.  
• Use valet lane for drop and go ONLY. This lane is not for parking.
• Do not park in assigned staff parking spaces
