Programs and Family Engagement Events
COVID-19 Statement: Our PTA aims to move many of our annual programs to the virtual space until we are able to gather on campus safely.
We are active all year long with so many wonderful programs and events to support Mark Twain and build community. Each of the activities below are also led by our wonderful volunteers.
Mileage Club
Mark Twain students AND their families walk, jog or run on the school's black-top track before school from the beginning of October to the end of May, every Friday morning from 7:45 am to 8:15 am (weather permitting). When students see families participate in Mileage Club it shows that the adults around them value healthy choices.
Red Ribbon Week/Spirit Week
Annual alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign celebrated nationally in the fall.
Spirit Wear
River Rafters show pride in our school throughout the year with Mark Twain Elementary t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, and hair accessories which are available for purchase. Wear your gear on Spirit Fridays and field trips!
Trick or Treat Night
Some of the best costumes show up at this annual fall family gathering. Students parade around our black-top in costume and enjoy trick-or-treating for prizes. There are many activities for families to enjoy!
Holiday Basket Drive
An important food drive, for an important cause. Lawndale Council PTA and LESD combine forces annually to provide holiday baskets for the less fortunate families in our community. This drive includes canned and packaged food contributions, new unwrapped toys/gifts, and “gently used” jackets/coats.
Silent Auction
Mark Twain’s silent auction is held annually in conjunction with the end of year Carnival. It’s your opportunity to bid on and win AMAZING items for a fraction of the cost! All proceeds benefit Mark Twain students.
Loved Ones Day
A celebration of family in all of it’s forms! Twain students invite loved ones to join them for a special lunch on campus.
Book Fair
PTA hosts this annual event to help promote literacy and inspire a love of reading amongst our students. The book fair enhances students’ book and literacy options. Book Fair runs for one week and is open before school, during lunchtime, and after school.
Jog-A-Thon
One of our biggest fundraisers of the school year where students walk, jog, or run to demonstrate and promote our ongoing commitment to healthy lifestyles. Our students ask family members and friends to sponsor them in efforts to raise funds for field trips, classroom supplies, and other educational activities.
Cultural Night
This wonderful annual event celebrates the various backgrounds of our families as well as additional cultures explored through classroom and student activities.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Our annual tribute for the national celebration of teachers and staff. Our educators play a pivotal role in our children’s lives, inspiring a lifelong love of learning and discovery and making a difference in their well-being and long term success. During this week, we celebrate, give thanks and gratitude for all that they do for our children.
End of Year Carnival
Arguably everyone’s favorite event of the year. Our Twain community comes together to celebrate the end of the school year with food, fun games, and activities for the whole family to enjoy!
